What Is A Cockapoo?

A cockapoo is a cross between a cocker spaniel and a poodle.  By breeding these dogs together, the expectation is that you will get the best of both breeds - the loving, sweet, gentle nature of the cocker spaniel, combined with the non-shedding, intelligent, playful side of the poodle.

Cockapoo breeders combine a cocker spaniel with a toy or miniature poodle, resulting in an "F1" or first generation cockapoo, which is what you will find at Karen's Cockapoos today.  Other generations occur when you breed two cockapoos together - for example, an F1 cockapoo bred to an F1 cockapoo results in an F2, or second-generation, cockapoo, which we have also bred with great success, but have retired our F1 female cockapoo from breeding.

We are a family who breeds only two female cocker spaniels with one male poodle to create our first-generation babies.  Our last litter was out of Lady, an AKC cocker spaniel that we own, bred to a toy poodle owned by the president of the North American Cockapoo Registry.

Party Girl, our second AKC cocker, will soon be bred to Tramp, an AKC toy poodle. 

We also have our now-retired cockapoo, Daisy, a first-generation, AKC-provable, buff-colored cockapoo we bred to Shadow, a first-generaton, AKC-provable, blue roan cockapoo.

Why does AKC matter when you're buying a non-AKC breed of dog?  If the puppy's heritage is all AKC provable, then you know what you're getting.  That is the value of choosing a breeder who can prove heritage.  Cockapoos are not AKC breeds.  Therefore, what people call a cockapoo can vary widely.  But if the parents and/or grandparents are AKC provable stock, then you know what's in your pup's genes.

At Karen's Cockapoos, we have taken the utmost care to select dogs that are healthy, have great temperaments, and that will produce wonderful family companions in their offspring.  We welcome your calls and your questions.  But if you come to visit, make sure you bring a box or blanket ... we know you won't go home empty handed!

If you need advice on solving a particular dog/puppy training problem or if you just want to understand your dog or cat's behavior better, Karen's Cockapoos can answer your questions.

To get started,    email us at kfranse@comporium.net.  

We will send     you a short questionnaire so we can understand your specific problem or concern.  We will also include instructions for payment of your $50 fee via Paypal.

Once we receive your completed questionnaire and Paypal payment, we will respond with a detailed answer via email. 

One additional followup question or clarification email is included after that initial response at no additional charge. 

We regret that we are unable to service customers in person or via telephone at this time, but may add additional services such as these in the future.

Results are not guaranteed  since it is up to you, the pet owner, to consistently and correctly implement the techniques  we discuss yourself. 

However, we are confident in our advice and have helped many pet owners resolve concerns or questions about their pets'  behavior.
